Boxing blitz on SuperSport this weekend

Whether it’s from East London or Los Angeles, this weekend’s best boxing will enjoy live coverage on SuperSport.

On Sunday afternoon, SA boxing prodigy Azinga Fuzile will move one step closer to a world championship shot when he fights an IBF eliminator against Russia’s dangerous Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov in East London.

Fuzile (pictured below) hasn’t put a step wrong in his five-year pro career and Rakhimov represents a big jump in his level of opposition. The Russian, who has an identical 14-0 record, already has a pair of wins over SA opposition (Rofhiwa Maemu and Malcolm Klaassen) and will be determined to claim a third on Sunday.

But he’ll have it all to do given Fuzile’s movement and outstanding fighting instincts, not to speak of the Orient Theatre’s intimidating environment.

The tournament will be streamed live on DStv Now (SS Play) with a repeat on SS4 from 6pm.

Also on Sunday, two of the world’s best welterweights will collide in LA when unbeaten southpaw banger Errol Spence, the IBF champion, fights WBC champion Shawn Porter (SuperSport 6, from 3am).

Spence is commonly rated among the five best pound-for-pound fighters, but ought to have his hands full against Porter, a rugged mauler who mixes explosiveness with recklessness.

The ingredients are in place for a  compelling fight with Spence having vowed to knock his American rival out and Porter dead keen to up-end his underdog status.

Earlier, on Saturday night (SuperSport 10, 7pm), SA mini-flyweight champion Xolisa Magusha will defend his title against fourth-ranked Sibusiso Bandla in East London.

Southpaw Magusha is excitement on legs, a non-stop puncher who is never in a bad fight.
